I was in ministry, making a good wage and was over $35,000. in debt, $0 in savings, and under $10,000. in a retirement account.

My fear was that if anyone in our church found out, I would not only be totally humiliated and shamed, but would I lose my job because of this financial mess.

​

I felt anxious all the time. I learned that being in debt effected my emotional life, my relationships and my spiritual walk with God. I knew this wasn't how I should be living. We had never been in trouble like this during the beginning of our marriage and ministry life. Something had to give.

​

My daughter had given us a book by Dave Ramsey years before. She and her husband were working though the baby steps and was making great decisions and even greater progress on their financial goals for their future family and future plans.

 

So, back at the ranch, my wife came across that book when we were in such deep debt and started to read through it. She made a decision to follow the principles presented in that book and in less than 2 years, we were out of debt.

I can't tell you the freedom we felt being debt free again. It changed how we thought about life. It gave us liberties that we could not have if we were still under the bondage of debt. Even when we were in debt, we never stopped tithing to God. But now, we have seen God continue to provide for us in ways beyond our imagination. He is so good and so faithful.

​

When Covid hit, I felt like it was time to try a new venture. I made the decision to help other people who are in the situation I was years before. I enrolled at Ramsey Solutions and completed the certification for Master Trained Financial Coach and went on to secure another certificate as a Ramsey Preferred Coach. That training provided a foundation for me to work with individuals and couples who need solutions to their debt struggles.
